Hexham Community Lounge gets a generous funding boost

Hexham Community Lounge gets a generous funding boost

The Hexham Community Lounges are now open across Hexham, providing a warm welcome and a warm space to everyone. Thanks to a generous donation one of the venues has been able to extend their commitment to the Community Lounges.

Hexham Community Centre received an anonymous donation of £400, one household’s Energy Bill Support payment.

The generous donor has said

“While there are so many people really struggling to keep warm this winter we are fortunate not to need the £400 that everyone is being given towards their energy bills. When we read about Hexham’s Community Lounge plan we thought we could help by donating our £400 to help others. If other people could help in this way then the Community Lounges would be available for more of the cold months.”

Jill Goodfellow, Hexham Community Centre Manager, said

“This donation is incredibly gratefully received and has allowed us to commit our premises and staff time to the Community Lounges until at least the end of February, we have also been able to smarten up the space, making it feel more homely and welcoming.”

The Hexham Community Lounges are six venues across Hexham, who were brought together in response to the energy crisis. Each venue hosts a Lounge on a different day, so that a warm space is available as much as possible. These warm spaces are free and open to everyone, and there is no need to book. Each Lounge has comfortable seating, tea and coffee available and entertainment such as DVDs and games. The Lounges are staffed by friendly volunteers, meaning you will find a warm welcome and friendly company as well as place to stay warm if you are worried about the cost of heating your home through the day.

Hexham Community Centre hosts a Community Lounge each Saturday, from 9am until 5pm. They were not eligible for one particular stream of funding that the other venues received and so were potentially unable to host the space for the duration of the winter, but thanks to this donation they have been able to commit their premises and more staff time to the Community Lounges.
